Welcome to YeOlde.co.uk
| Who? YeOlde.co.uk is an ongoing project by photographer Mark Varley and researcher John Grinter. |
What? YeOlde.co.uk is a historic/educational project. We collect old photographs of a town and research the buildings etc in them. Then we photograph the same scenes as they are today and mount old and new together for a fascinating view of change over time. Sometimes the photos look identical, sometimes you'd never recognise the location. |
When? The old photos we use vary in age from around 1900's to the 1950's, anything that shows a snapshot of life/town in times long past. |
Where? Towns and Cities in the United Kingdom, Particularly those with an interesting/long history, much of which still exists. |
Why? Old photographs have always fascinated us, looking at a 100 year old photo of a street in your town and recognising the old buildings now with a completely new use but still going strong. We find such historical comparisons fascinating, and we hope you will too. |
